Performance à la mûre – Blackberry Performance
A sung, played, and painted performance using Burgundy blackberries, accompanied by the Mongolian musician Ganaa Sandag (voice and Mongolian lute), featuring a large canvas sewn, stretched, and nailed to the wall like a drum.
This drum-canvas had been painted once before, twenty-five years earlier, with Arctic cloudberries gathered in Norway; its passage through a washing machine left soft, diffuse traces.
The performance emerges from the encounter between a Norwegian lullaby and a Mongolian folk song, as well as from their improvisations. It extends into the pictorial act, with blackberries applied to the drum-canvas. Fitted with a microphone, the canvas remains sonorous beyond the voice and the lute.
